Pneumonia again :(

my little princess kena diagnose pneumonia...lastweek was her 5th attack...tired and tension....try to google on pneumonia....byk plak sampai tak terbaca....a little bit on that to share...

Pneumonia is a general term for infection of the lungs, and it can be caused by many different organisms. New babies up to 2 or 3 months old may get pneumonia from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and group B streptococcus (GBS). An older baby or child might develop pneumonia as the result of other bacterial or viral infections.

Doctors group pneumonia into two categories: viral and bacterial.

If your baby has bacterial pneumonia, she'll probably have sudden symptoms — high fever, rapid breathing, and coughing. She won't want to eat, and she'll seem very ill.

She may have trouble breathing (look for flaring nostrils or her chest sinking in as she breathes), a faster pulse, and bluish lips or nails. She may seem weak, vomit, or have diarrhea. Streptococcus pneumoniae is the usual cause, but other strep bacteria can cause pneumonia, too, like Staphylococcus aureus or Chlamydia pneumoniae (not the same chlamydia that causes sexually transmitted disease).

Viral pneumonia typically starts out like a cold, but symptoms slowly and steadily get worse. Your baby may have a fever of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit or more, with a worsening cough, wheezing, and rapid breathing. Weakness, vomiting, or diarrhea can also be symptoms.

Viral pneumonia is usually less severe than bacterial and can't progress into it — but can make your baby more susceptible to the bacterial form of the disease. Viruses behind pneumonia include respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), parainfluenza virus, adenovirus, and the flu virus.
